Malibu Chair Design
The Malibu Pilates Chair is manufactured by infomercial giant Guthy Renker, Inc. Built like a stool with two spring-loaded pedals, it offers you a method for performing classic Pilates wunda and electric chair exercises in the comfort of your home.
The chair is constructed out of metal, steel and vinyl with padded arm handles, hand grips, foot pedals and seat. It can accommodate users weighing up to 300 pounds.
Locking pins secure the pedals in an immobile position when not in use. The chair is sturdy, safe, and strong, yet lightweight enough to set-up and store away in seconds.
How It Works
Designed for many different exercises, the pedals of the chair work your arms and legs individually — or simultaneously for added resistance — and can be adjusted on the fly to maintain your workout flow and keep your heart rate up for continuous calorie burning. For example, you can sit on the stool and push down on the pedals with your feet, or you can lie down on the stool and push down on the pedals with your hands.
The Malibu Pilates Chair comes with:
- 20 Minute Malibu Pilates Makeover DVD – a brief, informative demonstration of proper form and step-by-step instructions on how to use the Malibu Pilates Chair.
- Total Dream Body Sculpting Workout DVD – 45-minute fat-blasting, circuit-style workout using the Malibu Pilates chair.

The Bottom Line
The Malibu Pilates Chair is probably best for you if you have some prior experience with Pilates and are already in good physical shape. While it is much smaller and easier to manage than a traditional Pilates machine, it’s a good idea to invest in a few personal training sessions with a certified Pilates trainer to learn how the exercises should feel, and how to modify them to meet your needs.
